Dear Friends
Introducing an exciting new addition to Scouting in Bournemouth
Welcome to the Two Rivers Scout Fellowship an exciting way to increase the fun you already get from your Scouting experience.
Forget how Scout Fellowships have been viewed in the past we are a dynamic and forward looking Fellowship. All warranted leaders within the Avon and Stour Districts in Bournemouth are automatically members.
You can of course opt out of being a member but why should you it won’t cost you anything and we just might be doing something you would like to take part in.
So what is a Scout Fellowship? Well it is a group of adults who have one thing in common - a wish to support Scouting. A Scout Fellowship welcomes men and women of all ages, interests and backgrounds. There is no need to have been involved in Scouting or Guiding before, all that is required is a willingness to give some of your time to Scouting. In return you will make friends and be able to join with others doing whatever you decide. A Scout Fellowship also has its own social and activity programme.
The aim of any Scout Fellowship is to “Provide Active Support”, with the emphasis being very much on supporting the youth programme in an active manner, at all levels of the Association from the local Scout Group to National level.
What is “Active Support?” Well it encompasses the talents of the Scout Fellowship of all ages and abilities, whether it is physical, mental, geared to a particular technical skill or general support. It could be as a badge examiner, catering for courses, running pioneering courses, assisting with hill walking, rock climbing etc. We all have something to offer as far as supporting Scouting is concerned whatever our age or ability.
In fact, active support means just about anything!
The Scout Fellowship is a large part of the ‘backbone’ of the Scout Movement - supporting the young people and voluntary leaders wherever help is required. The key to our success will be our flexibility - we’re here to help.
One thing I can confirm is that we do not make tea or cakes. Except for our own consumption.
You can take part in as much or as little of the Fellowships activities that you may wish too. Some of us may hate doing car park duty but there are always those who love telling people what to do with their car.
Yes most of us are working with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and so on but sometimes we would all like to have a go at something else. Well here is your chance. Grab what you want from it after all it is your Fellowship so use it.
I have been asked to be interim Chair for our Fellowship and I am proud to do so. I have been involved in Scout Fellowship at a national level for some years. In fact I am Chairman of a National Scout Fellowship so I do have some experience to offer. My other role within Scouting is an ACSL with 37th Bournemouth Cub Pack. Plus Helen Lockyer has offered her services as Interim Treasurer her experience in that area is a most welcome addition.
Where is the catch, I hear you cry, it has got to cost me something hasn’t it? Well yes of course when you come to a meeting we will ask you for a one pound donation to help with our costs. So come to two meetings in a year and it will cost you two pounds. Come along to twelve and it will cost you twelve pounds. Not bad for what you are going to get out of it.
We shall of course raise some money occasionally via various fun methods but any money over what we need will be used to help local Scouting. Well I hope so but that is your decision at AGM
This web site will, I hope, answer any questions about the Fellowship that you may have but if not please email us.
See you in a field somewhere
Yours in Scouting
